What to Expect when You Come

First Chiropractic Visit

Brief Paperwork

Upon entering our office we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with general information about you.

We ask that you bring any insurance cards with you or if you’re being seen for an automotive or workmens compensation accident be prepared to give us the claim number and adjusters name and phone number.

History and Examination

The doctor will ask you various questions about your health history and areas of concern. Next, a number of tests will be performed to aid in determining your diagnosis. Testing may include standard neurological, orthopedic, range of motion, postural and physical examination.

X-Rays will only be ordered if there is a concern warranting it. The majority of cases do not require x-ray studies.

Same Day Treatment

Once the examination is complete the majority of patients will receive their first treatment. This may include adjusting, physio therapies, and/or soft tissue therapies.

Home Instructions

Prior to leaving you will be provided with information on how to take care of yourself at home and/or work. This may include important exercises, appropriate stretches and proper application of ice/heat.

First Massage Visit

History and Examination

The massage therapist will ask you various questions to determine your overall health and your health and wellness goals. Your physical condition, medical history, lifestyle, stress levels and medications will be considered and help the therapist structure the session to help achieve your wellness goals.

Privacy and Environment

Before your massage, you’ll be asked to remove clothing to your level of comfort. You will lie on the massage table, underneath the provided sheet, which will cover your body. You will be properly draped during the entire session.

Music might be played. If you find music distracting, tell your massage therapist. The same goes for talking during your session.

Your massage therapist should check on pressure and comfort. If you’re uncomfortable at any time, tell your massage therapist.

Massage Therapy

Typically, oil or lotion will be used. If you’re allergic to oils or lotions, tell your therapist beforehand.

There are numerous types of massage techniques that may be used including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, kneading, stretching, pressure to specific points and more. Ask your massage therapist about the methods she will be using.

The benefits of massage are cumulative, so work with your massage therapist to customize a plan to meet your wellness goals.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and be sure to have eaten within 2 hours, prior to appointment time.

First Acupuncture Visit

History and Examination

The practitioner will ask you various questions about your health history and areas of concern. Next, your tongue may be observed and pulse taken, to aid in determining your diagnosis. Testing may include neurological, orthopedic, range of motion and a physical examination.

Same Day Treatment

Once the examination is complete patients will receive their first treatment. First treatments tend to be a bit shorter and more conservative in nature. Follow up treatments have shorter intake duration and longer treatment time. Appointments may include acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, guan ha, and/or other soft tissue therapies.

Home Instructions

Prior to leaving, you will be provided with information on how to take care of yourself at home and/or work. This may include the recommendation of herbal supplements, the use of ear seeds or tacks.

First Naturopathic Visit

What can I expect from a visit to your office?

Your first visit will be about 90 minutes and include a thorough history, a physical examination and pertinent lab work will be ordered. Follow-up naturopathic visits will be 30-60 minutes scheduled in most cases monthly for chronic conditions and sooner if acute issues arise. You will leave each naturopathic visit with an individualized treatment plan. If acupuncture is determined to be a beneficial part in your health plan, treatments are initially scheduled weekly for up to 10 weeks to maximize the cumulative affect.
